The Resort Village of Shields is seeking a self starter for a Permanent Seasonal Golf Course Greenskeeper. The Shields Golf Course is a nine-hole grass green course located 25 minutes south of Saskatoon, in the beautiful lakeside community of Shields. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position requires a candidate who will work independently with minimal direction, has an excellent ability to identify and solve problems and enjoys working with the public and as part of a team. Experience working on a golf course would be an asset.
As the Greenskeeper, you will perform a variety of general maintenance activities on the golf course and related equipment. You will manage the maintenance and care of course facilities and grounds. You will be responsible for the monitoring and inspection of the golf course and managing any emerging issues as they arise to ensure that the entire golf course is maintained in good condition. This will include all fairways, greens, adjacent aprons, and the community centre area. These areas will require mowing, trimming, fertilizing, pesticide application and other landscaping requirements. The position will also involve assisting in course projects and supporting the course opening and closure as directed by the Operations Manager.
The Greenskeeper is also responsible for maintaining the golf course irrigation system and lines as well as independently identifying and repairing breaks in the irrigation system. The Greenskeeper is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the golf course facility and equipment.
The successful candidate will have experience and ability to perform maintenance, using common hand tools and light equipment. You will operate light-to-medium equipment such as light trucks, riding mower, skid steer, power tools and other equipment as directed. The Greenskeeper is responsible for maintaining all course mowers and mobile equipment.
You will have ability to work independently and as a contributing member of our team to complete work assignments and contribute towards a positive working environment. You will supervise assigned staff. You will have capacity to respond accurately, clearly, and courteously to inquiries from the public. You will also be able to identify problems, consider various options, and determine appropriate course of action. You must be able to physically perform tasks such as lifting, carrying, or moving supplies and equipment. The successful candidate will have knowledge of basic cleaning methods; safe equipment and building operation, maintenance, and minor repair. You will have knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S Regulations.
The successful candidate must possess a current valid Driver’s License. The seasonal position runs between April and October each year with a flexible start and end date, dependent on the weather dictating course opening and closing. Hours of work are normally Monday to Friday; however, hours may be altered on short notice due to inclement weather. Occasional weekend work may be required.
